Weighted blanket – a great way to get some rest

Have you ever heard about weighted blankets? They could put your way of relaxation into perspective. Find out more about weighted blankets!

What is a weighted blanket?

A weighted blanket – https://senso-rex.com/gb, often called also a gravity blanket or an anxiety blanket, is heavier (than a comparably-sized duvet) type of blanket that can be used to help people get some rest or even to support their psychological issues’ and disorders’ treatment. Weighted blankets are often offered as a therapeutic solution for anxiety, depression, stress and insomnia. The typical weight of a single blanket varies from 4 to even 14kg, depending on two factors: the size of the blanket and the body weight of the user (the final weight of the blanket shouldn’t be more than 10% of the user’s weight, however many people prefer even heavier blankets for their own comfort).

The additional weight induces a “grounding” effect on the body. By pushing it down during sleep, relax or meditation, the anxiety blanket provides with a calming effect as well as simulates DPT (deep pressure touch) therapy to reduce anxiety and stress.

How does a weighted blanket help someone to relax?

The extra pressure on the body, provided by a gravity blanket, has been presented in copious research from a lot of studies to reduce the levels of a cortisol – a stress-related hormone. Same time, it increases the levels of melatonin, a sleep-related hormone, what helps a particular person fall and stay asleep. Also, it increases the levels of serotonin – so that person can feel relaxed and calm. Thanks to this balancing of hormone levels and the fact that the heavier weight of the blanket is intended to feel like getting a hug, a weighted blanket is a perfect way to start feeling better.

Could a weighted blanket be used to help support psychological disorders’ treatment?

Gravity blankets could be used as a support for current treatment. By reducing the levels of cortisol, the prolonged stress, that results in consequential disorders such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, weight gain or anger, returns to the normal level or even disappears. Also, the therapeutic deep pressure touch effect promotes relaxation and the release of feel-good hormones dopamine and serotonin. Weighted blankets could be also used to treat disorders different than anxiety or stress: they do support treatment of issues such as ADHD, autism, Asperger’s Disorder or even menopause symptoms.
